Rationale & Purpose
The very essence of trusthealth.asia lies in its motto: “Do More with Life.” Through this campaign, we aim to bring forward real-life heroes from diverse backgrounds, echoing our motto and showcasing the embodiment of resilience, determination, and inspiring life journeys.
In our clinical environment, patients often experience discomfort and negativity. The ‘Agent of Life’ initiative seeks to create a powerful association between these individuals, who have personally triumphed over medical struggles, and the patients’ experiences. Our aim is to infuse clinical settings with the vibrant energy of life, celebrating these exceptional individuals as living examples of the indomitable human spirit. By featuring them in clinical contexts, we endeavor to convert discomfort and negativity into beacons of hope, sources of unwavering support, and poignant reminders that life, even during its most challenging moments, is worth embracing with boundless enthusiasm.
KNOW YOUR AGENT OF LIFE
Tan Jee Tjun
Tan Jee Tjun (commonly known as Tjun), a 38-year-old lawyer and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) black belt based in Kuala Lumpur, exemplifies strength and perseverance. His life took a challenging turn at 33 when he was diagnosed with Stage III nasopharyngeal carcinoma, during a time when his career was thriving and his family was growing. Despite the grim prognosis and severe treatments, including chemotherapy, radiation, and surgery, Tjun endured various excruciating side effects, including the possibility of losing his voice, a crucial tool for his legal profession.
Determined not to let cancer define his life, Tjun continued his passion for BJJ. Remarkably, he earned his black belt in 2020 and actively competed in international events, winning medals and proving his resilience. He even innovated a protector for his chemotherapy port to facilitate his training, illustrating his refusal to be hindered by illness.
Tjun’s battle with cancer took another dire turn when the disease progressed to Stage IV, metastasizing to his lungs. He underwent further treatments in Taiwan, but the cancer remains. Living “from scan to scan,” Tjun’s strength is fueled by his family, especially his autistic son Freyr. His role as a breadwinner and father remains central to his fight against cancer. Showcasing his adventurous spirit and indomitable will, Tjun attempted to scale Mount Fuji, Japan—a metaphor for his journey with cancer: challenging yet filled with determination. Inspired by a quote from ‘Game of Thrones,’ Tjun faces fear with bravery.
Tjun’s story is not merely a tale of a man’s struggle with cancer; it is an inspiring narrative of a man embracing each day with courage despite overwhelming odds. His life reflects the power of hope, the importance of family, and the unyielding human spirit in the face of life’s most daunting challenges.
